Plant of the week
Palm trees are not technically trees; palms are flowering plants in the monocot order Arecales, making them more closely related to grasses than to typical trees. Unlike most trees, palms lack a cambium layer, therefore are not able to increase their truck thickness over time. The palm family includes shrubs, vines, and stemless plants. Palms have large, thick, leaves called fronds. Scientists found palm fossils that date back to the time of dinosaurs!
