You might say what is a hermit crab? Are they a crab that lives in the sea, or something else? Well I am here to tell you what hermit crabs are all about! Hermit crabs are little land crabs that tend to live in the forest, you might think that hermit crabs live on the beach, but nope. They are very good climbers that love to climb high.
They live in shells that tend to be brown with white spots. They have many different color shells. There is such a thing as sea hermit crabs; they are fully aquatic and tend to be bottom feeders. What land hermit crabs eat is dried peppers and veggies, another cool thing about them is how long they live. They can live as long as you! If they are happy or well taken care of they will sing, it is quite a sound to hear.
When they grow they must molt, which is shedding their old skin and growing bigger. When they do this they go underground and shed their skin, this process takes up to 2-3 months, when they are done they come up and their skin is very soft and pink, a healthy hermit crab is usually red to bright orange.
