Animal of the Week: Kauai Cave Wolf Spider 11/13/25
The Kauai Cave Wolf Spider is the rarest spider in the world. It can grow up to 19.0 millimeters, or ¾ inches long. The spider is only found in lava tubes within the Koloa Basin on the island of Kauaʻi, Hawaii. For a wolf spider, the Kauai cave spider has no eyes at all. The main reason why they are an endangered species is because of habitat loss, and chemical and biological pest controls. The Kauai cave wolf spider’s diet consists of other things that live in the tunnels, like cave amphipods, a tiny blind crustacean.
